Weeds and grass are termed as parasites which rely on the food and nutrition of actually planted trees and shrubs. We will guide you how you can prevent your garden plants from getting attacked by these.

People have witnessed the process of choosing correct landscape fabric for weed control as time consuming. Although the owners of landscaping fabric making companies produce specifications but the problem is that their market which pays them the most is construction. Therefore they have to keep construction market as a tool while defining specifications. If there is ample amount of time available, you can cover up all specifications, and extract some good comparison out of it.

Three core areas should be considered while choosing a fabric for landscaping.

Strength of fabric: Fabric should be strong enough to allow particular amount of air and water to flow through it. Adequate strength of fabric is needed to accomplish the purpose. There is no point of selecting the thickest fabric that is costly and doesn’t serve your purpose.

Fabric should possess consistent fibres of same quality. In order to protect the weedy grasses to get penetrated in fabric’s small holes, mesh size should be kept relatively small. Rather than growing through the fabric, weeds are affected by tiny amount of light which can easily penetrate through the fabric because it is made by different weaves or by joining different pieces of same fabric. Small amount of soil is sufficient for germination of weeds hence they the fabric top will be covered by weeds. These weeds get their nutrition from root hairs which are endorsed in the soil. In order to protect the weed growth through fibre’s weave, spun bonded fabric can replace the previous one because it has microscopic mesh size.

Mesh should be fine enough to protect the growth of weed and grass but at the same time, its holes should allow air and water to permeate through it and reach the soil. Fabric should be able to breath, allow oxygen and required nutrients through it, and provide air and water to the soil in order to make the plants look healthy and long lasting so that they can sustain for a longer period. Average landscaping fabrics are distinguished by super quality fabrics due to this characteristic. Plastic sheets have failed to serve the purpose of deterring weeds. Although it doesn’t let weeds grow but it’s impossible for air and water to flow through it. Poor permeable fabrics may allow so much of water that the water may wash away everything present on surface of fabric like coverings or bark.
