5 Wonderful Australian Eco homes

This house is situated in a highly exposed and was built to ensure ease of cooling and heating. Fully integrated in its surrounding environment, this house was planned to reduce its ecological footprint to the maximum therefore has a rainwater collection system. The large water tank resides in the living room ceiling and actually serves as a support for the roof. Another nifty aspect of the water tank is that it actually guilty of cooling the internal ambient air temperature of the house. The house also feature large wind scoops that not only help to provide shade but also serve as a passive cooling system for the house.

If we look at any satellite imagery of Australia, it then becomes clear that Australians seem to prefer living within the vicinity of the beach rather than inland. This house breaks free of this widespread trend and detached itself. Sean Godsell’s design, built in the hills of Victoria, features many eco friendly technologies such as solar panels. These come into play to help cool down the house during the ever so hot Australian summers and to heat during the winter. To reduce the eco footprint of this house, Godsell equipped it with a rainwater collection system.

Don’t be fooled by the somewhat “shipping container look” as this prime beachfront house has some serious design credentials. This awesome beach house overlooks the southern ocean, but beautiful things come with a price. Being in a location where storms are quite frequent, the designers came up with an oxidized steel outer skin to help protect this house. The house was designed to look nothing like the boring and dull world of corporate offices and blend the looks of indoor and outdoor life.

As a response to global climate change problems, the designers of Zen Architects came up with house. This house features an oasis in the sky with its rooftop garden. Rooftop gardens feature many benefits such as helping reduce into ambient air temperature. This in turn reduces power consumption for air conditioning. The house features a two story void which enables the sun to heat its concrete floors but also permits the wind to flow through and cool the house. All this was done without having to sacrifice any architectural strength and style.

This is probably the pinnacle of environmentally friendly and sustainable investment property. To reduce its carbon footprint has been at the top of the list for this building, ever since the first conception stages. It maximizes its sustainability through an array of methods such as solar energy. The house gains a major part of its heat thanks to passive solar gains. A two story void helps cooling combined with a cross ventilation system. This also enables excess heat to escape easily. Excess heat is also channeled to the swimming pool to be used as a “heat sink”. The house also features numerous solar panels and rain water collection.

THESE DAYS, THERE IS A HYPE ABOUT GREEN BUILDING, ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY BUILDING. EVERY ONE LIKES TO TALK ABOUT SUCH STUFF, AND FANTASIZE ON IT. NO ONE ACTUALLY DOES ANYTHING, MOSTLY BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO START BUILDING ECO HOMES, FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS AND WASTES.

THIS ARTICLE WILL TAKE YOU SEVERAL STEPS AHEAD THAN SUCH PEOPLE, AND RE-ENFORCE YOUR KNOWLEDGE IN BUILDING ECO-HOMES FROM RECYCLED MATERIAL, AND ANSWER THE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS BY MOST PEOPLE.

*WHAT IS GREEN BUILDING?
CONSTRUCTING HOMES, HOUSES, OFFICES, OR SIMPLY BUILDINGS IN THE MOST ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY WAY POSSIBLE.

*WHY ARE HOMES BUILT IN THIS MANNER CALLED ECO-HOMES?
CONSTRUCTING IN THIS ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY MANNER, DOES NOT MAKE USE OF HEAVY POLLUTING RAW MATERIALS, INSTEAD IT USES ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY ITEMS, OR IN SOME CASES WASTE MATERIALS WHICH CAN BE RECYCLED. HENCE IT IS NOT HEAVY ON POCKET AND HELPS IN CUTTING THE COSTS.

*HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO BUILD ECO-HOMES FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS?
One of the easiest ways to incorporate the concept of green building in your constructions is by building Eco Homes from Recycled materials.

1) You can always go to a junk shop, or contact builders, or people who have recently constructed buildings, and collect waste from there. You’d be surprised to find that materials like wood, Iron bars, bricks, etc. which are junk to them, are the things you were going to buy.
2) Old friends, neighbors who are getting new furniture is a great option as well.

3) Second hand sales, garage sales.

*EXAMPLES OF SUCH ECO HOMES FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS:
Recently in Bolivia, a group of environmentalists got together and made a House, using waste bottles instead of bricks. They simply filled the bottles with Sand, and re-enforced them with cement and Iron bars, and made a whole new house of them. About 25,000 bottles, were used, which they had collected from garbage and wastes.

Build Eco-homes from recycled material is not very easy, but its not that tough either. Put in some effort ,you won’t ever regret it!

Arriving towards a green home is our dream. It needs some basic changes towards eco friendly home improvements. Here I shall enlighten about the basic changes that may require.
Consider installing solar energy system. Solar heating is in use since a long time. But using solar power for getting electricity is recent invention. They are clean, don’t have any moving part and easy to install. Place them on the rooftop facing south and you will get enough energy to run your home appliances.

Replace all standard light fitting to compact fluorescent lights. They consume about 70% less electricity. Although these lights are a bit costlier, you will get its benefit in the long run. The money you save from electricity bill will surpass the cost difference within couple of months.
If you are considering replacement of roofs, change to glazed tiles. It will deflect the sunrays and keep your room cooler. Use light colored roof tiles.

Install motion detector light sensors in the rooms. It will light only when there is motion and you are safe from unnecessary electricity bills.

Try to minimize water wastage. Seal the leaks from all the pipelines. Use cold water while laundering as much as possible. Make water saving a family affair. These are the basic eco friendly home improvements.
