Home Cleaning Tips – How Do Hotels Clean Up So Fast?

Clean Your Home Fast With Our Hotel Cleaning Tips

Hotels get hundreds of guests passing through them. In many cases, one guest checks out and less than an hour later, another guest checks in to the same room. Have you ever wondered how hotels manage to get rooms cleaned so quickly?

Well, part of the secret comes down to the system that the maids work to. Most hotel rooms are cleaned and turned down every day. When a guest checks out, they usually take all of their clutter with them. Anything that’s left behind gets bagged up and taken to lost and found.

The hotel room itself is pretty Spartan, and the cleaning staff have access to everything they need to do a good job, quickly. They have a Vax Powermax, a large rubbish bag, and replacement linen and toiletries all on hand.

Room cleaning goes something like this:

  1. Turn the mattress and replace the linen
  2. Empty the bin, and remove any clutter from the room
  3. Replace used toiletries with fresh ones
  4. Replace used towels with clean ones
  5. Clean the toilet, and check the basin / shower, cleaning it if necessary
  6. Vacuum the floor with the Vax Powermax

This process usually takes no more than 25 minutes.  There may be other checks and cleaning or maintenance work done on a monthly or quarterly basis, but the general daily check is a quick and simple process.

If you’re not used to that kind of work, then it would probably take you a lot longer, but most hotel rooms have similar layouts, and when you’re cleaning dozens of rooms a day, it shouldn’t take long to get a good system going.

Cleaning a hotel room is hard work, and it can be more physical than you might expect. It takes a lot of effort to turn a mattress and re-make a bed, and doing that plus the cleaning work in just 20 minutes or so means that you’re constantly on the move.

It is possible to apply hotel principles to your day to day life, but it will take some planning and effort. The first thing you’ll need to remember is that hotel rooms are easy to clean because they are cleaned frequently. Also, hotel rooms don’t tend to accumulate clutter in the way that homes do. If you want your home to look like a hotel room, you’ll have to treat it like one – that means not hoarding anything that you don’t need, and clearing it out frequently.

For some people, the hotel-style lifestyle works well, but for some it’s simply not homely enough. The way you live in your own home is a personal thing, and what’s right for one person is not automatically right for another.

Next time you’re in a hotel, spare a thought for the maids and the other staff. If you’re staying in a country where tipping is a part of the culture, then spare a thought for them when you’re working out your tips.
