All of us love a nice green lawn but often because of the amount of water that needs to be used, the
pesticides involved and other miscellaneous maintenance needs, such a lawn can be a big drain on our
environment as well as our resources. You could even do without a lawn and instead indulge in
something more environmentally friendly. However, if you don’t want to forego your lawn, you can do
the following to reduce the harmful effects:

Let the lawn grow: If you let the grass grow, it is scientifically proven that grass will grow slower after
it grows to about 4-5 inches height. This means you need to use the lawnmower less, weeds are
naturally killed and water retention is higher meaning you need to water less. Unless you’re operating a
golf course, letting lawns grow is s a great way to minimize adverse effects.

Don’t fill your lawnmower to the brim: Every year, around fifteen MILLION gallons of gas are wasted
while trying to refill lawn machinery. You will find that while you are trying to top up your lawn
mower, you always manage to spill some on the grass. This not only kills your lawn most effectively,
you also add to your already increasing fuel bill. What you need to do is to stop trying to fill your lawn
mower tank to the top, instead leave some space empty.

Opt for electric equipment: If you’re out to buy some lawn equipment, opt for electric machinery
instead of the traditional gas powered ones. It will create less noise, will be safer for the environment
and are idea for small plots. Though this form has its disadvantages, like always needing to recharge
the batteries, electric machinery performs on the same level as traditional equipment and sometimes
even better and that too in an eco friendly manner.
