Detox Your Spring Cleaning Ritual
We all do spring cleaning, with the idea of refreshing and revitalizing our homes, but maybe it’s time for you to detox your spring cleaning ritual. You would be shocked to find what is in all of those spring scented, spring fresh chemicals you use in your home.
Terms like eco-friendly, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly are unregulated and, therefore, mean nothing on the labels of caustic, noxious chemicals bottled for home use. You need to look beyond the appealing words to choose your cleaning products. Look for keywords like phosphates, bleach, triclosan and others. Often, cleaning products include formaldehyde, and surfactants are being disguised by other names. These are the contents that you want to stay away from in your cleaning products. You want to avoid these for the sake of your own health, but don’t forget the planet, as well. Often, people don’t consider that they are flushing these very harsh chemicals down the drain when they use them to clean or wash, and that the drains have to go somewhere and that the chemicals in the drain follow.
Today, there are many companies producing truly green cleaning products for your home and fabric. The good news is that most of the green products are less costly than the poisonous brand names and get more effective results. So, the trade off to green is better. That pretty much eliminates any reason you might have not to go green with your cleaning products.
You can find many green products on department store shelves, and Internet ordering is easy as well. If you don’t want to get involved in buying green clean products, you can stick with water, plain soap, baking soda, washing soda (sodium carbonate), vinegar, borax, and lemon juice. Just add elbow grease and everything will come clean just fine.

Great article!
I switched to natural cleaning products a long time ago and have tried so many brands until I found my absolute favorite, Citra Solv. A clean house, a safe planet and a protected family, what else could I ask for? Everybody should start switching to green products and hopefully soon they will.
